Ryan Reynolds initially pitched a Deadpool/Wolverine 'Rashomon' story to Marvel years ago, but it was turned down due to the recent release of 'Logan', which provided the perfect send-off for Wolverine.
When Reynolds and director Shawn Levy were ready to give up on the team-up idea, Jackman's enthusiastic return call inspired them to create a 'Midnight Run'/'Planes, Trains and Automobiles'-style road trip exploring the characters' shared regrets and search for redemption.
